According to the National Association of Realtors, less than 1 in 10 sales in 2010 were FSBO sales. In about half of those the seller knew the buyer (friend or relative). A higher proportion of FSBO sales occur in rural areas or center city areas. Bottom line, if you live in a suburban area FSBO’s account for less than 3% of all home sales. This is largely due to the fact that most buyers prefer to work with a Realtor, and Realtors have the network and access to information needed to service a buyer. And FSBO’s do not typically play a part in their search.
